5 Minute Friday-Connect

Today, I am participating in my first 5 Minute Friday! I'm excited and nervous, but I was encouraged to take the plunge  opportunity, by my friend Latonya.  5 Minute Friday is a community of writers who write for 5 minutes on a given prompt. You can read more about Five Minute Friday at Kate Motaung. Today's prompt is "Connect". I'm going in...!

Connect. We hear it spoken of often, but how connected are we in this age of the world wide web and the global community? This type of connectedness feels somehow unconnected and far away. Real connectedness is up close and personal. It's beautiful and ugly. It's joy and pain, sunshine and rain as Frankie Beverly sang. It's reaching across the fence instead of reaching acroos the world. It's putting your heart and soul to pen and paper to send a letter of encouragement . With all our technological advances-email, instant messaging, etc, it is wonderful to receive a handwritten letter in the mailbox.

  1. Blessings friend :) I am your neighbor today at FMF, welcome and so glad you joined, I find it pretty fun to write on a word prompt. YOu put things in to perspective so beautifully and you made me think! I think people have really lost the art of loving and the delusion of social media/the web is creating such a lonely place in fact. I pray we can all connect more fully where we are and with the people around us! Many Blessings Aliyah (setapartwarrior.blogspot.co.za)

    1. Blessings to you Aliyah! Yes, I also thought the writing was fun. It's kind of like the writing students have to do for achievement tests but without the added pressure! I agree that weddings are wonderful places for connection. Our oldest daughter is getting married in July:-)

  2. Hi, welcome to FMF! I'm glad you took the plunge! While there are many benefits to connecting online I agree, there is something especially beautiful about receiving a handwritten letter, particularly as it's such a rare occurrence these days. Visiting from #20.

    1. Hi Lesley, thank you for the welcome. Handwritten letters and cards are treasures. I still have a birthday card from my grandmother. She passed away 40 years ago, but I treasure that card even more today than I did the day I received it.

  3. Beautiful post, Pat. Yes, there is truly a delusion of connectedness, and if we aren't careful chances are we will wind up more disconnected than connected.

Glad you took the plunge, my friend!

  4. Hello Pat (gathered your name from your replies). Great post. Glad you dived in. I might as well be new at FMF (#28)as I haven't participated in at least a year if not longer and even then...kind of sparse.

I think that you are spot on with connection. The real personal in your face connection is great. I love a letter too. Though I do feel that all connection can be nurtured if we truly invest ourselves in it. Even the long distance internet ones.

    Wonderful encouragement Pat. :)

    1. Hello Kelly! My brother used to work at a Christian radio station and even though we were far apart, we connected through his sharing of all his enjoyment of the various teachers and music.

I can relate to those stressing over quite- a- lot mornings. Isn't it awesome when the Father how the Father uses creation to remind us of His presence and further demonstrate His love to us! Thank you for diving in with me!:-)
